Folly on a Hill – Concept Model, 2024
Basswood / 16″x 16″x 8″
My first introduction to architectural design occurred when I attended the Architecture Discovery Program at Washington University in St. Louis in 2024. Our studio project was to design a folly on a hillside lot. This form in this conceptual model was inspired by boat sails intersecting a cube.
Folly on a Hill – Final Model, 2024

This final model was constructed after several conceptual models and 3D renders. The shapes envisioned in the sails from earlier models contributed to the creation of a complex geometry that formed a passageway through the overall structure. The idea was that a visitor to the folly would enter through an enclosed opening and, as they moved through the space, would be exposed to increasing amounts of light, eventually arriving at a vast, open view on the other side of the folly.

Computer-aided technical drawings
20″ x 20″
These concept drawings were created using Rhino 3D and Adobe Illustrator to effectively convey the overall intentions of my design, enabling faculty and peers to provide meaningful feedback. The top left drawing is an isometric view of the exterior of the folly in its imagined environment. The top-right drawing precedes the other drawings and is an isometric view of the bottom of the folly. The bottom drawings are unfolded layouts of both the interior and exterior of the folly.
